Episode 9: Starting The Reassembly To-Do List

The time has come. We are finally putting this thing back together. For Episode 9, I spent the first half of the episode going over the current to-do list in order to get this thing up and running. Though the list doesn’t contain ALL of the remaining things to complete, it does show what bigger ticket items need to be done and in what order.

All products used will be listed at the bottom of the page with links.

Installing New Starter and Battery Cables, Glow Plug Harness, and Glow Plug Relay

First I installed the AN10 oil cooler adapter fittings onto the oil filter housing. From there I began the rewiring process, where I ran new starter and battery cables, doing my best to tape them up nicely and hang them out of the way.

Next I focused on installing the glow plug relay, originally found on the 7.3 IDI. I chose this version because it is a self timed unit that wouldn’t require a physical on/off switch and seemed to be the most straightforward option for this swap. The installation was simple and the old intake box tray made the perfect space to install this relay neatly. I also cut the makeshift glow plug harness I made and taped that up as well. I will go into more detail on that harness and how I made it at a later time once I am sure that it works properly.

Lastly, I tore into the stock Ford engine harness to clean up, tape off, and cut unneeded connections. This was a simple but time-consuming process. Next episode I will show more on that harness and begin showing which terminals we’re retaining and how I intend to use them.
